Retaining Walls

Engineered retaining walls that hold grade on commercial development pads, multi-family sites, parking decks, and slope-stabilization projects across Greater Atlanta.

Retaining Wall Capability

Retaining walls fail when drainage fails. Water builds hydrostatic pressure behind the wall, the wall tilts, the grade slumps, and the property owner pays twice. The job isn't holding back dirt — it's managing the water that wants to push the wall over.

008 Concrete builds CIP retaining walls, gravity walls, and reinforced cantilever walls for Greater Atlanta development sites. Drainage planned with the wall, weep holes set, drainage board installed, and backfill done right.

Hold Grade. Move Water.

Atlanta red clay holds water like a sponge and pushes hard against any wall that doesn't drain. The hydrostatic pressure on an 8-foot wall in saturated clay can run 600+ lb per linear foot. Walls have to handle that load — and the better answer is to give the water somewhere to go.

Every retaining wall we pour includes engineered drainage — gravel base, drain pipe, drainage board, weep holes — sized to the wall and the soil. Jake and Chuck specify the drainage scope before they specify the wall.

Rebar to stamped drawings, key into footing properly

Right mix design for the wall height and pour sequence

Backfill in lifts with compaction, not dumped from above

Top-of-wall finish coordinated with the railing or guard trade

Retaining Wall Pricing

Commercial retaining wall cost depends on wall height, linear footage, drainage scope, soil conditions, and reinforcement. Greater Atlanta market ranges below.

Standard CIP Retaining Wall

$80 — $140 / sq ft of face

4-8 foot walls, standard rebar, engineered drainage

Tall / Heavy / Engineered

$140 — $250+ / sq ft of face

8-16+ foot walls, complex rebar, tiered or buttressed walls

Every project gets a written, line-item estimate. The number we quote is the number you pay.

Retaining Wall FAQ

Georgia code typically requires an engineered design for retaining walls over 4 feet of exposed face, walls with surcharge load (vehicles, structures, slopes above), and walls in seismic-rated zones. We build to stamped drawings on every wall over that threshold — and most below it too, because over-engineered walls last longer than under-engineered walls.

The single biggest cause is bad drainage. Atlanta red clay holds water, water builds hydrostatic pressure, pressure tilts the wall. Walls fail months or years after they're built — usually right after the first heavy spring rain. The fix is to manage water as part of the design, not as an afterthought.

Wall timing depends on height, length, and rebar complexity. A typical 4-6 foot CIP wall runs 1-2 weeks from forming to stripped. Taller walls and complex tiered designs run 3-6 weeks. We commit to a schedule in writing before mobilization.

Yes. 008 Concrete handles the full scope — excavation behind the wall, footing pour, wall pour, drainage installation, backfill in lifts, and compaction. One sub from grading through finished top of wall.
